Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the role of small scalle industry in absorbing labor in the city of Kupang. This research was conducted in the city of Kupang. This study the data obtained in the form of interviews and literature and using quantitative descriptive analysis. The results of this study show that 1. Small industries have an important role in employment. This is reinforced by the data and the result of interviews that number labor increased in the period of 5 years from 2012-2016. The workforce is seen as having special skills in the production process. This is very helpful for employmers and also on the one hand can increase income from labor. 2. Working hours are time to do work. The time needed in a day worked accoring to the constitution number 13 of 2003 as many as 8 hours, start 08.00-15.00. Based on the results of the research in three places the small industrial bussines unit working hours that apply to labor is 10 hours, start 07.00-15.00. This is due to the rules of the small industrial bussines owners themselves. 3. Income is the amount of money received by the comoany from its activities mostly from selling service products to customers. Income plays an important role in employment. This if the income obtained is large it will help the owners bussines as well as the workers. Income derived from the sabu weaving bussines is a big as Rp. 500.000, while the income earned for workers is equal Rp. 300.000. The tempe bussines knows for sure how much income the bussiness owner gets Rp. 2.400.000, for the workers the income is equal Rp. 100.000. And for small furniture industries UD. Barokah Abadi acquired by business owners as big as Rp. 2.000.000-Rp.3.000.000 and income for workers is as big as Rp. 100.000. The suggestiom of this research is 1. Make it easy for small industry entrepreneurs to obtain funds and permits in providing business. 2. Should conduct training on the develpoment of managerial quality distribution, material quality and production coaching. 3. Quality of production must be developed to be able to national and international merkets so that demand increases.
