Abstract
The rate of Return on Assets (ROA) of banks listed on the IDX has decreased in the last 2 years, namely in 2019-2020. This study aims to analyze the effect of the variables Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR), Operating Expenses on Operating Income (BOPO), and Net Performing Loans (NPL) on Return on Assets (ROA). This study uses a sample of 12 conventional commercial banks listed on the IDX for the 2016-2020 period. The sampling technique used in this research is purposive sampling. In this study, secondary data were taken in the form of bank financial statements from 2016 to 2020. The data analysis technique used descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis consisting of classical assumption test, multiple linear regression analysis, hypothesis testing and coefficient of determination. The results showed that the research data were normally distributed. Based on the multicollinearity test, heteroscedasticity test, and autocorrelation test, no variables that deviate from the classical assumption were found. The results of the study provide evidence that the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) and Net Performing Loan (NPL) variables partially have a negative and insignificant effect on Return on Assets (ROA), while the Loan Deposits Ratio (LDR) has a positive and insignificant effect on Return on Assets (ROA). Operating Expenses on Operating Income have a negative and significant effect on the Return on Assets (ROA) of the 12 conventional commercial banks. For banks to increase profitability as much as possible, look at the various types of influencing factors, so that effective and efficient actions can be taken in maximizing profit or profitability. For investors who will invest or invest their funds in a bank, it is advisable to pay attention to the level of the existing ratio in the banking system, so that nothing happens in the future.
