Abstract

Isolation and identification of active compounds from the ethanol extract of Koro Benguk (Mucuna pruriens) seeds and antioxidan activity tests. The purpose of this study was to determine the active compound content and antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of Koro Benguk seeds (Mucuna pruriens) from Weikoro, Lembata Regency. This research was conducted by extraction method, chromatography, UV-Vis spectrophotometer , IR spectrophotometer, and DPPH method. Extraction of 250 g of Koro Benguk seed flour obtained 25.34 g of thick ethanol extract with a yield of 10.14 % w/w. Phytochemical test results showed positive containing flavanoid, fenolik, alkaloid, and triterpenoid compounds. Identification of isolates in the methanol : n-hexane (2:1) fraction using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer showed absorption at maximum wavelengths of 230 nm, 245 nm, 260 nm. While the results of the IR spectrum showed the existence of O-H phenol group stretching vibrations, aromatic C-H stretching vibrations, aliphatic C-H, C=O unconjugated ketones, C=C aromatics, C-O ether, and aromatic C-H buckling vibrations. Antioxidant test results with a maximum absorbance of the samples at a wavelength of 518 nm using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer showed the IC50 value of 20.51 ppm Koro Benguk seed ethanol extract. From the results of the UV-Vis and IR spectrophotometer analysis it was concluded that the isolate contained flavanoid compounds and results of the antioxidant activity testing of the ethanol extract of Koro Benguk showed that the antioxidant power was very strong (active)
