Abstract

Teacher profession is the ability of a teacher in doing teacher profession. The professionalism of a teacher is influenced by many factors, some of which are managerial competence of headmaster, academic supervision, and teacher training both partially and simultaneously. It was specified into three problems. (1) What are the conditions of the professionalism of teachers SSHS of Kupang Barat District of Kupang Regency? (2) Do the managerial competence of headmaster, academic supervision, and teacher training partially affect professionalism of the teachers of SSHS of Kupang Barat and Nekamese Districts of Kupang Regency? (3) Do the managerial competence of headmaster, academic supervision, and teacher training simultaneously affect professionalism of the teachers of SSHS of Kupang Barat and Nekamese Districts of Kupang Regency? The population of this study was 100 teachers of SSHS of Kupang Barat and Nekamese Districts of Kupang Regency. As the sample of the study, 80 teachers of SSHS were randomly taken through technique of proportional stratified random sampling applying Slovin’s formula. Data were collected through questionnaires, observation, and interview. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The result of descriptive statistic analysis shows that the variable of teacher professionalism is categorized as good enough, with indicator achievement of 59.52%. The variable managerial competence of the headmasters is categorized as good enough with indicator achievement of 59.57%. The variable of academic supervision is categorized as good enough with indicator achievement of 59.76%. And the variable teacher training is categorized as good enough with indicator achievement of 59.38%. The inferential statistic analysis shows that the variable of managerial competence of the headmasters of SSHS partially affects positively and significantly to the professionalism of the teachers of SSHS with the tcount of 2.454 and the significance of 0.016 < α 0.05. The variable of academic supervision affects positively and significantly the professionalism of the teachers of SSHS with the tcount of 3.817 and significance of 0.000 < α 0.05. The variable of the teacher training affects positively and significantly the professionalism of the teachers of SSHS with the tcount of 2.191 and significance of 0.03 < α 0.05. The three independent variables simultaneously affect positively and significantly the professionalism of the teachers of SSHS of Kupang Barat and Nekamese Districts of Kupang Regency with the Fcount of 20.408 and the significance of 0.000 < α 0.05. The contribution of the three independent variables is 44.6% and the rest of 55.4%, is determined by other variables that are not involved in this study. Dealing with the result of the study it is suggested to the headmasters to manage their schools to lift up the academic supervision and the teacher training that finally results in lifting up the professionalism of the teachers of SSHS Kupang Barat and Nekamese Districts of Kupang Regency.
