Abstract

This research aims to know if there were impacts of the using social media on students' learning achievements, especially in Mathematics for junior high school. The populations of this research are the students of VII SMPK Santa Familia Kupang. Based on teachers' thoughts, both the populations and students' academic skills are homogen. Thus, the sample of this research is the VII grade students of SMPK Santa Familia Kupang. The researcher takes the students randomly, they were 24 of 65 students. The data used in this research is the data of achievement test and use of social media questionnaire from all students of class VIII. The data obtained will be analyzed using SSPS version of 22.0. Before held hypothesis testing, a prerequisite test is performed on normality test for the data of achievement test and the data use of social media questionnaire. From the results of the analysis for achievement test data, the researcher obtained . .(2− )=0,096>0,05 and =0,164< =0,269then H0 accepted and concluded the data is normal distribution. Whereas for the data use of social media questionnaire, it is obtained . .(2− )=0,200>0,05 and =0,124< =0,269maka then H0 accepted and concluded the data is normal distribution. Hypothesis testing used SPSS program version of 22.0, after the data were analyzed, it is obtained value of .(2− )=0,002<0,05and = 3,426>1,71387= thenHrejected, so it is concluded that there is significant influence use of social media on mathematics achievement of junior high school students. The results of this study showed that use of social media influence on mathematics learning achievement. Therefore, the researcher suggests for teachers should control the use of social media on students so that will be no impact on students’ learning achievement of mathematics.
