Abstract

This study is entitled “ A Study On the Grammatical Errors In Writing Narrative Text Made By The Tenth Grade Students Of SMA Muhammadiyah Kupang In School Year 2014/2015. The study is conducted to answer the questions: 1). What are the types of grammatical errors made by the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Kupang in school year 2014/ 2015 in writing narrative text? and 2). What are the most common types of grammatical errors made by the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Kupang in the school year 2014/ 2015 in writing narrative text? The study is aims at:1). Finding out the types of grammatical errors made by the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Kupang in school year 2014/2015 in writing narrative text, and 2) finding out the most common types of grammatical errors made by the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Kupang in school year 2014/2015 in writing narrative text. The writer used descriptive method to find out the type and the most grammatical errors made by the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Kupang. This study was conducted at the tenth grade student of SMA Muhammadiyah Kupang in the school year of 2014/ 2015. In this study, the writer chose the class of sciences program. There were 14 students as a sample. In collecting the data, the writer uses a writing text. The result of test shows that the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Kupang in the school year 2014/2015 committed the grammatical errors in writing narrative text. However the number of errors made by each students varies in types and numbers. The common grammatical errors made by the students were omission 26 errors(26%) students,misformation 67errors ( 67%) that committed by 14 students, and misordering 1 errors (1%) that committed by 1 students. The most frequent errors committed by the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Kupang in writing a narrative text was misformation and the least errors committed by the grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Kupang in writing a narrative text was misformation and the least errors committed by the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Kupang are related to the use of tenses,verbs,modal auxiliary, conjunction, possessive adjective, pronouns,preposition,and articles. Although writing is not an English subject at the senior high school but the students should practice it. Based on the result of research, the suggestion are as follows: 1). The teacher should teach the students in how to write text and give the chance to students to practice it. The practices should be focused on grammar especially in using tenses, verb, modals auxiliary, conjunction,possessive pronoun, adjective, preposition, and article and update the comprehension in English vocabulary. 2) The students should learn how to write the text focusing on grammar especially in using tenses, verb, modals auxiliary, conjunction, possessive pronoun, adjective, preposition and article and function meaning vocabulary
