Abstract

This study entitled “An Analysis On Listening Ability of the Tenth Grade Students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang in the School Year 2018/2019”. This study was conducted to answer the following question: (1). Are the tenth grade students of SM Kencana Sakti Kupang in the school year 2018/2019 able to comprehend the test they listen? (2). What is the listening ability level of the tenth grade students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang in the school year 2018/2019 in complete and filling the missing words when listening to the test. The main objective of this study were the following: (1)To find out the ability of the tenth grade students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang in completing and filling the missing word when listening to the test. (2). To find out the ability level of te tenth grade students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang in the school year 201/2019. Descriptive method was applies to describe the students’ ability level in listening. The subject of the study was the tenth grade students especially nursing program in he school year 2018/2019. The number of the students was 20 students. In collecting the data, the writer gave tests. The test were about, fact and figures and names and addresses. The result of the test shows that the tenth grade students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang in the school year 2018/2019 able to complete and filling the missing words when listening t the test and their level of ability is “Very Good”(8,6). Beside, it can be seen that there were 11 students (55%) who were at very good level, 7 students (35%) at good level and 2 students (10%) at fairly good level. There was no students in excellent level, below fairly level, average level, poor level, very poor level, bad level, and also very bad level. Based on the result above, the writer could suggest the following: (1) The English teacher should be creative in teaching listening and they must balance all skills that they teach, not only paying attention to the reading skills but also to listening, speaking and writing (based on writer’s observation). (2) The English Teacher should teach vocabulary like homonyms, because it is the difficult of listening dealing with sound of words/vocabularies. (3) The students should increase their listening ability by listening the story, test, conversation, broadcastings so they can use different titles of the test that can interest of the students and they can use different types of listening.
