Abstract

This study is entitled” A Study on the Ability in Writing Recount Text of the Tenth Grade Students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang in The School Year 2018/2019. It aims to answer the following questions: (1) Are the tenth grade students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang in the school year 2018/2019 able to write about the recount text? (2) what is the writing ability level of the tenth grade students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang in the school year 2018/2019? The objectives of this study are (1) To find out if the tenth grade students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang in the school year 2018/2019 are able to write recount text. (2) To find out the level of ability of the tenth grade students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang in the school year 2018/2019. In order to solve this problems, the writer used descriptive method. This method was used because the aim of the study was to the decribed the writing ability level of the tenth grade students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang. The subjects of the study were fifty students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang. The result of the research shows that in general the tenth grade students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang were able to write recount text. The level of writing ability of the tenth grade students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang is Good (9). Based on the result of the study, the writer would like to suggest that the English teacher of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang should give more attention in the teaching of grammar especially simple past tense, preposition, article and the use of pronoun and give explanation to the students about the generic structure in writing recount text.
