Abstract

This research is entitled An Analysis of Ambiguity In Tetun Terik Dialect of Tetun Language. This research was conducted by Novianus Taek Halek with Reg. No. 12115029 under the supervison of Dr. Drs. Kletus Erom, M.Hum and Dr. Elvis Albertus Bin Toni, MA. Based on the light obsevation, the Ambiguity in Tetun Terik dialect of Tetun Language appears in some human body parts and entails certain meanings. The topic above is specified into a problem: what are the kinds of ambiguities in Tetun Terik dialect of Tetun Language. Due to qualitative study the data were obtained through obsevation and interview. The researcher observed the lexicons that can be attacted to figur out kinds of ambiguities in Tetun Terik dialect. It was strengthened by interviewed six (6) informants in the terms interviewed the lexicons being attached by the word ambiguity at the final positions of noun referring to human body arts and their meaning. The data were analyzed through some steps: recording, listening and translation of the ambiguities meaning cultural imagery of the Tetun Terik dialect speakers by using the theory of semantics. There are 44 findings in three kinds of ambiguities that founded; the first is twenty three (23) lexical ambiguities, for example: the word “Ain” has two meanings, (a) dregs (b) foot. The second is eleven (11) phonological ambiguities, for example: the word “tu tan/tutan” has two meaning, (a) get seat (b) connect. The last one is ten (10) grammatical ambiguity, for example “mane oan ida” the sentence has two meaning (a) a man who has one child (b) a boy. In line with the significance and the finding of the study some suggestions are proposed. (1) Linguistic researchers are suggested to do other researches in any languages highlighted from the Bucaria (2004) theory of Semantics Lingustics. (2) The linguistic researchers are suggested to do other researches how goverment to prepare the fund to cary out seminar, workshop, researchs, etc on local language.
