Abstract

This study is entitled “A Study On The Reading Comprehension Ability of The Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Negeri 4 Kupang in Academic Year 2018/2019”. It is intended to answer the following questions (1) Are the eleventh grade students of SMAN 4 Kupang able to comprehend text they read? (2) What is the ability level of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 4 Kupang in comprehending a reading text? The objectives of the study are to find out whether or not the eleventh grade students of SMAN 4 Kupang able to comprehend the text they read and to find out the ability level of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 4 Kupang in comprehending the reading text. In obtaining the data, the writer used normative survey method. The data were taken in SMAN 4 Kupang of the eleventh grade students especially class XI IPS 2. The writer chose 30 students from 42 students of class XI IPS 2. The instrument used was a test through reading narrative text. Based on the data analysis, the result of the test shows that the students of SMAN 4 Kupang are not able to comprehend the text they read and their level ability is below average.
