Abstract
This thesis is entitled “An Analysis on Grammatical Errors in Writing Recount Text Made by the Tenth Grade Students of SMA Negeri 2 Kupang in the School Year 2018/2019”. It was conducted to answer the following questions: (1). What kinds of errors are made by the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Kupang in writing recount text in the school year 2018/2019? (2). What is the most common error made by the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Kupang in writing recount text in the school year 2018/2019? The objectives of the study are: (1) To know the kinds of errors made by the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Kupang in writing recount text in the school year 2018/2019 and (2) To know the most common error made by the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Kupang in writing recount text in the school year 2018/2019. The subjects of this study were 33 students in class X- IPA 3. In getting the data, the writer used descriptive method. This method aims to describe the errors made by the students. The results of the study are: (1) The grammatical errors committed by the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Kupang in the school year 2018/2019 in writing were 214 (62%) cases of Misformations, 60 (17%) cases of Misorderings, 43 (12%) cases of Omissions, 27 (8%) cases of Additions and 2 (1%) cases of Miscellaneous errors in students’ writing. (2) The most common error committed in writing a recount text by the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Kupang is Misformation with the total number of errors is 214 (62%). Based on the result of the data analysis, the writer suggests: (1) For the English teacher, especially of the researched school that they should teach the student on how to compose a good writing especially in writing recount text and to pay more attention on students’ grammar rules and structure used in the text, and also give feedback towards the students’ writing and communicating their progress in writing. (2) For the students of SMA Negeri 2 Kupang, they should learn more about grammar and apply grammar rules more on how to write a good writing especially in writing recount text focusing on the structure and to pay more attention to the tense used to tell something that already happened.
