Abstract

The hypotheses of this study are (H0) Comic strip is not effective in teaching writing, (Ha) Comic strip is effective in teaching writing. Therefore this research aim to find out whether or not comic strip is effective to teach writing. This research was classified as experimental study. In this study the writer used purposive sampling and choose the tenth grade students of SMKN 2 Kupang in the school year 2017/2018, and took two classes as the subject of the study. Total of the students in each class was 15 students. Multimedia class was treated as an experimental group that means this class got the treatment, or in other word this class used comic strip media in writing narrative text and another one was a control group, the class that did not accept the treatment or in other words, control class did not use comic strip in writing recount text. The conclusion was taken from the experimental group and control test results and to test the research hypothesis using independent t-test, the writer applied analytic method of scoring designed with SPSS. The results of this study show, there are 2 tables about students' writing scores. This first table shows that in the experimental class (classes that use comic strips) get an average score of a total score of 16 while in the control class table (classes that do not use comic strips) get an average score of 12.5 total scores. This means that it can be concluded that learning using comic strips is more effective. This can also be shown from the results of calculations using independent t-test from SPSS, the value of sig (2-tailed) 0,000 < 0,05 which means that H0 (comic strip is not effective in teaching writing) is rejected.
