Abstract

This study is entiled “ AN ANALYSIS ON GRAMMATICAL ERRRORS IN A RECOUNT TEXT WRITTEN BY THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA SINT CAROLUS KUPANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2018/2019”. It was conducted in order to answer the following questions. (1) What are the grammatical errors committed in a written by the eleventh grade students of SMAK Sint Carolus kupang in writing recount text?. (2) What is the most common grammatical errors committed in the school year in writing recount text by the eleventh grade of SMAK Sint Carolus Kupang? While the objectives of the study are to find out the grammatical errors committed in a recount text written by the eleventh grade students of SMAK Sint Carolus Kupang in writing recount text (2) the most common grammatical in the school year 2018/2019 in writing recount text by the eleventh grade of SMAK Sint Carolus Kupang. In collecting the data, the writer made use written data taken place in SMSK Sint Carolus of eleventh grade students especially in class XI IPA 2. The writer choose 20 students and asked them to write a recount text from topics given by the writer. There were two topics that My exciting experience and My last Christmas. The result of the study showed that (1) The grammatical errors committed in a recount text written by the eleventh grade students of SMAK Sint Carolus Kupang were misformation, omission, addition, and misordering. (2) The most common grammatical error in the school year 2018/2019 in writing recount text by the eleventh grade of SMAK Sint Carolus was misformation error. Based on the result of the data analysis the writer would like to propose some suggestions of the English teachers os SMAK Sint Carolus to focus on the grammar especially in subject verb simple past tense, preposition, and article, because the students still lack in these parts. And for the students of SMAK Sint Carolus it is suggested to pay more attention in writing, reading, listening and speaking or asking more the teachers, and friends, or someone who knows more about English grammar.
