Eny Irianty Maubanu. 2018. A Study on The Use of Animation Video to Improve Reading Skill of the Tenth Grade Students of Smk Negeri 2 Kupang in the School Year 2017/2018”. Thesis of Language and Art Department. English Study Program. Advisor I Drs. Ataburan Klemens, M.Hum and advisor II Yohanis Nurak Siwa, S.Pd, M.Pd. The problems of this study are (1) Is the use of Animation Video effective to improve the reading skill of the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 2 Kupang in the school year 2017/2018?, (2) How is Animation Video used to improve reading skill of the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 2 Kupang in the school year 2017/2018? (3) What is the students’ reading ability level after they are being taught using Animation Video?. Therefore the objectives of this study are (1) To find out whether or not the use of Animation Video is effective to improve reading skill of the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 2 Kupang in the school year 2017/2018. (2) To find out how is the Animation Video used to improve reading skill of tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 2 Kupang in the school year 2017/2018. (3) To find out the level of reading ability of the tenth grade sudents of SMK Negeri 2 Kupang in the school year 2017/2018 after being taught using Animation Video. The subject of this study was the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 2 Kupang in the school year 2017/2018. This study belongs to the Classroom Action Research (CAR) which offered by Kemmis and Mc Taggart and were conducted in two cycles.each cycle consists of four stages. They are planning, action, observing and reflecting. Based on the research, the writer makes some conclusions as follows: (1) Animation video is effective to improve students’ reading skill. It was proven on their reasult in post test 1 in cycle one and post test 2 in cycle two. In post test 1 the total score is 1800 and the average is 64.28. The category of post test 1 is good because only 11 students able to pass the test. In post test 2, the total score is 2580 and the average is 92.14. The category of post test 2 is verry good because 23 students able to pass the test. The average from post test 1 have increased in the average of post test 2. So the writer conclude that animation video was effective to ipmrove students reading skill. (2) Animation video was implemented into two cycles. In the first cycle, when the writer implemented Animation video to them and give task to them some students still fail when answer the questions because they think that it is new for them. Based on the result from cylce 1, the writer continue in the next cycle. The result of cycle 2 is verry good because almost the students passed the test. (3) After the students being taught by using animation video, the writer saw that the students reading ability level is literal reading level. It is proven by when they were easily to undesrtand the content of the story in animation video. When they watched and read the running text on the animation video, they can undesrtand and know about the content of the story, for example who is the actor or actrees in the story, where is the story happened, etc. By looking at the result obtained, the writer may conclude that animation video is effective to improve students reading skill of the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 2 Kupang in the school year 2017/2018 and can be applied in teaching and learning process.
