Abstract
This study aims to determine whether there is the effect of problem solving learning model towards mathematical skills of students SMPN 20 Kupang. The sample in this research is the students of class VIII B which amounted to 26 people. The data used in this research are pretest and posttest value of experiment class with problem solving learning model. The data obtained will be analyzed using SPSS program version 22.0. Prior to hypothesis testing, prerequisite tests were tested for normality for pretest and posttest data. From the analysis results for pretest data obtained Dcal= 0.169 < Dtable= 0,259 which means normal distributed data. While for posttest data Dcal= 0.221 < Dtable= 0.259 which means the data is normally distributed. Hypothesis testing using paired samples test, after data analyzed obtained obtained tcal = 27,608. For ttable obtained from df = n  1, with df = 25 then ttable = 2,060 so tcal = 27,608 > ttable = 2.060, then H0 is rejected and Ha accepted which means there is a significant effect of problem solving learning model to mathematical skills of grade VIII B SMPN 20 Kupang period 2016/2017. The results of this study shows the effect of problem solving learning model to the students' mathematical skills. Therefore the authors suggest for teachers to use problem solving learning model on learning in the classroom in accordance with the material to be taught.
