Abstract
This study is entitled ‘An Analysis on Writing Ability of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMK Negeri Ile Boleng in the school year 2019/2020’. The study is conducted to answer the following questions: 1) What is the writing ability level of the eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri Ile Boleng? 2) What are the difficulties encountered by the eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri Ile Boleng? The objectives of the study are as follows: 1) To find out and to know the level ability the eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri Ile Boleng in the school year 2019/2020 in writing. 2) To find out and to know the difficulties encountered by the eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri Ile Boleng in writing. The research approach is descriptive method. The subject of this study is the students of SMK Negeri Ile Boleng in the school year 2019/2020. The results of the study showed that: 1) The ability level of the eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri Ile Boleng in the school year 2019/2020 in writing descriptive text is 15.21 regarded as very good level in writing. Based on the distribution of the students’ ability in writing descriptive text it can be seen that 11(57.90) got Excellent level, 8(42.10) students got very good level ability, no student got good level of ability, no student got average level of ability and no student got excellent, below average, and bad. 2) The difficulties faced by the students were grammar in using simple present tense, and incorrect spelling. Based on the result of the study the writer would like to propose some suggestions as follows: 1)The students of SMK Negeri Ile Boleng need to enrich themselves by mastering English spelling in order to write a paragraph more easily. 2) Grammatical rule is another important thing they have to master. The students need to know the grammatical rules in writing descriptive text. 3) Grammatical rule is another important thing they have to master. In this case, they don’t need to be a perfect student in mastering all English grammatical rules but enough to understand well some general rules, like using auxiliary words and conjuction that deal with general knowledge in writing paragraph including descriptive paragraph. 4) The students of SMK Negeri Ile Boleng need to read English text more because by reading English text, the students can enrich the ability in vocabulary, form and improve the grammatical rules in the writing practice.
