Abstract
This research was intended to investigate the type of metaphor used in Adonara Lamaholot songs composed by Pledeck band and conceptual metaphor in each song. Metaphor helps speaker or the writer to describe two different things. Metaphor is not only found in poem but also in a song. The results of this study are useful for the academic world and the practical life, especially Adonara Lamaholot Songs. To inspire research, several numbers of related studies were previously reviewed. To easily understand, direct, and limit research discussions, several numbers of basic concepts are defined. To analyze data, cultural-linguistic theories operating in metaphors are applied. This research is descriptive qualitative. Data obtained through interviews and translation. For this reason, some questions and diagnoses are prepared. Data is obtained through listen to the song and list the metaphors that contain in it. Data is analyzed through transcript steps, a list of metaphors, translations, and interpretations. The results of data analysis are explained informally or verbally explained. The method used in this research is descriptive method. In collecting the data, the writer uses theory of Lakoff and Jhonson (1980) about metaphor conceptual theory to identify kinds of metaphor. Then the writer analyzed the meaning to determine target and source based on theory of Lakoff and Jhonson (1980). In line with the problem statements, there are found two types of metaphor used in Adonara Lamaholot song: orientational metaphor and ontological metaphor. Also found in the conceptual metaphor of Adonara Lamaholot song expressed in the metaphor that appears in the song lyric. In this album, the song writer used various phrases that make the target domain is not only focus in one source only. The mapping of conceptual metaphor refers to data below: (1) HAPPINESSS IS A FLUID IN CONTAINER. (2) HAPPINESS IS A PLEASUREABLE PHYSICAL SENSATION, (3) LIFE IS DOWN, (4) FEELING IS FRUIT, (5) BODY PARTS ARE ANIMAL, (6) PEOPLE ARE NUMBER, (7) PEOPLE ARE PLANT, (8) WORDS ARE WATER, (9) WORDS ARE THINGS, (10) WORDS ARE SUN, (11) PEOPLE ARE JEWELRY. Following the significance and research findings, some suggestions are proposed. (1) Linguistic researchers are expected to carry out further studies to confirm and expand. (2) Other research candidates are advised to design and conduct other studies that focus on the metaphor used in each type of songs in Adonara Lamaholot Language. (3) The writer can give contribution to others and give advantages to all people that they have intention to learn about live through work of art.
