Abstract

The formulation of the research problem is as follows: 1. What are the factors that cause children to drop out of school in Strongae Village, Soe City District, South Central Timor Regency. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that cause children to drop out of school in Strongae Village, Soe City District, to describe the negative impact of school dropouts in Strongae Village, Soe City District, to determine the description of school dropouts and their impact on the family economy. This research was carried out using a qualitative descriptive method. In the discovery of the sample in this study, primary data techniques were used through the methods of observation, interviews and documentation. The informant in this study is a key informant of a teacher. The main informants are 4 out of school children, 2 additional informants are the parents of the drop out children. The results of the study show that the factors that cause children to drop out of school are those that come from within the child, namely the lack of interest in the child's own learning. And factors that come from outside the child, namely due to weak family economic conditions, lack of parental attention will result in a loss of motivation for children and tend to be vulnerable to being affected by bad associations because they are more comfortable with their own associations. Factors from outside the child's self also have an effect on raising children's motivation to work. This factor is also the cause of children dropping out of school such as the environment, family, and social peers. The impact on the family economy is that children who drop out of school prefer to work to help their parents in meeting their daily needs rather than going to school. In accordance with the conclusions above, it is recommended that school dropouts in Strongae Village, Soe City District, South Central Timor Regency, keep trying to learn, always motivate themselves not to give up hope easily so that they are able to complete their education level, for parents to be more active in working to meet their daily needs. family day. so as not to involve children to help parents work, and parents pay more attention to and prioritize children's education. The school as an educational institution should pay attention and provide guidance to children who are less interested in school by providing flexible regulations, a curriculum that is suitable for community conditions. Local governments need to activate package A, B, C programs for children who have dropped out of school.
