Abstract

This study is entitled “AN ANALYSIS ON TRANSLATION FROM BAHASA INDONESIA INTO ENGLISH OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMAN 7 KYPANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2015/2016. It was conducted to answer the following questions: (a) are the translation of the tenth grade students of SMAN 7 Kupang in traslating the translation text from Bahasa Indonesia into English good or bad? (b) what are the difficulties faced by the tenth grade students in translating an Indonesian text into English? The objectives of the study are (a) to find out whether the translation of the tenth grade students of SMA N 7 Kupang in translating Indonesian text into English is good or not. (b) to find out the areas of students difficulties face in translating. To answer the questions mentioned above the writer used the qualitative method (Nida and Taber 1982: 2). The subject of this study is the tenth grade students of SMAN 7 Kupang in the school year 2015/2016. There were 23 as the subject. In collecting the data, the writer gave a test in form of the text that the writer prepared. The text entitled “Petani dan Box” consists of 21 sentences written in Indonesian. The text was translated by the subject of this study. Based on the result of analysis, the conclusions of this study are: 1) the student‟s translation is classified as good. 2) the areas of difficulties faced by the students were lack of grammar (tenses, modals, personal subject, possessive adjective) word choice (vocabularies/lexicon) and the meaning (content) so they can‟t translate correctly. Based on the result of this study, some suggestions are presented as follows: (1) for the English teachers specially the Englihs teachers of the tenth grade students of SMAN 7 Kupang, they are expected to focus on the ability of students in translation to improve the grammar, vocabularies and the meaning (content). 2) the tenth grade students of SMAN 7 Kupang and all students in general to learn more English grammar vocabulary. So they can translate the text well.
