Abstract

Coral reefs are a tropical seabed ecosystem built mainly by limestone - producing marine life, especially types of rock and algae corals. Coral reef ecosystems act as food providers and shelter for marine life. Research data on coral reef diversity in Pasir Panjang Beach, Kupang City to date is very limited. Therefore, this study aims to determine the diversity of coral reef, determine the diversityindex of shannon wiener types of coral reef, determine the percentage of coral cover and determine environmentalfactors at Pasir Panjang Beach, Kupang City. It is hoped that the findings of this study can provide good images of the bad coral reef ecosystems at Pasir Panjang Beach, Kupang City. The method used for coral reef data retrieval is the Line Transect Method (LineTransect). Some of the metersrecorded by the Line Transect method include types of coral reefs based on life form and percentage of closure. Descriptively used analysis data. The resultsshowed that at Pasir Panjang Beach, Kupang City, 9 species of coral reefs were found which include Acropora sp, Platgyra acuta,Favites sp Goniastrea pectinata, Porites lutea, Favites pentagona, Favites complanata, Favites abdita, Favites holicora and consistingof 3 families, namelyAcroporidae, Favidae, and Poritidae. The most common type of coral reef is found from the family Favidae. The diversity index of coral reef species in Pasir Panjang Beach, Kupang City, is occupied by station 2 (1,894), followed by station 3 (1,720) and the lowest station 3 (1,517). Based on the criteria put forward by Shanon-wiener, it is in the category of poor diversity index. The highest percentage value (%) of coral reef cover is occupied by station 2 (4.61) and followed by station 3 (2.63) and the lowest station 1 (1.93). Where according to the criteria fromthe Ministryof Environment no. 4, 2021 is included in the category of bad/destroyed.
