Abstract

This thesis is entitled "Community Participation in Increasing Economic Income through Preservation of Traditional Boxing (Etu) in Boawae Traditional Village, Natanage Village, Boawae District, Nagekeo Regency". The formulation of the problem in this study is how is community participation in increasing economic income through the preservation of traditional boxing (etu) in the Boawae Traditional Village, Natanage Village, Boawae District, Nagekeo Regency? The purpose of this study was to describe community participation in increasing economic income through the preservation of traditional boxing (etu) in the Boawae Traditional Village, Natanage Village, Boawae District, Nagekeo Regency. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data source used is primary data obtained directly from informants through interviews and secondary data in this study is data obtained directly from the field. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, interview, and documentation techniques with the aim of collecting data according to the researcher's problems. The technique used to determine the information in this study is purposive sampling. The theory used is Cohen and Uphoff's participation theory. The results of this study indicate that community participation in increasing economic income through the preservation of traditional boxing (etu) in the Boawae Traditional Village, Natanage Village, Boawae District, Nagekeo Regency, can be carried out by 1) Participating in Decision Making in traditional boxing preparation meetings (etu) and boxing decision making traditional boxing (etu), at this stage traditional leaders, tribal heads, community leaders sit together to hold meetings regarding the activities of implementing Etu (Traditional Boxing) and make decisions on mutual agreement, 2) Participation in Implementation by elaborating the traditional boxing program (etu) and implementation of traditional boxing activities (etu), at this stage the community really participates in the success of the etu activities, many spectators register themselves as boxing participants, even though many spectators come they still maintain order so that there is no chaos, 3) Participation in Man Taking benefit from the benefits of traditional boxing activities (etu), at this stage the community takes advantage of etu activities by selling local snacks, handicrafts, renting out traditional clothes used by spectators to take pictures to increase economic income, and 4) Participation in Evaluation with reports on achievement of boxing activities traditional (etu), at this stage after the etu activities have been completed, the customary leaders, tribal heads, community leaders gather to carry out an evaluation. They began to plan a work program that would be implemented one (1) year in the future. Based on the above observations, the authors recommend (1) For the Natanage Village Government, the Natanage Village Government should play an active role in participating in the etu tradition (traditional boxing). And introducing the etu tradition (traditional boxing) to the entire Natanage sub-district community so that not only Boawae Traditional Village residents participate but the entire Natanage Sub-District is also expected to participate. (2) For the Boawae Traditional Village Community, the Boawae Traditional Village community must be able to maintain and preserve the cultural heritage of the etu (traditional boxing) tradition, so that it can be recognized by the younger generation and continue to participate in preserving their own culture.
