Abstract

RS-WC or Thin Asphalt Concrete is a layer of highway pavement consisting of a mixture of hard asphalt, aggregate with uneven gradations, and filler which is mixed, spread, and compacted at certain temperatures and conditions with a thickness between 2.5 -3cm. In the HRS-WC asphalt concrete mix process for its coarse aggregate, natural aggregate (cobblestone) that passes the sieve is used. ½” and No. ¾”. Cobblestones without preprocessing greatly affect the pavement structure and aggregate quality for use in the HRSWC mixture. From the above problems, a study was carried out which aims to determine the characteristic properties of natural aggregates, and the composition of natural aggregates as well as the resulting Marshall parameter presentation and what is the Optimum Asphalt Content in the use of natural aggregates in this mixture which must meet the 2018 Highways Specifications revision 2. Using this method Marshall with an estimated asphalt content of 6%, 6.5%, 7%, 7.5% and 8%, the results of the Marshall characteristic test using a 24-hour immersion time of the material meet the specifications and for natural aggregate composition of cobblestone ¾ ": 12%, ½” cobblestone: 35%, stone ash: 37%, natural sand: 15% and cement: 1%. After that, the Marshall test results showed that the Marshall parameter values (Density, Stability, Flow, VIM, VMA, VFA, and Marshall Quotient) did not meet the 2018 Highways Specifications revision 2, therefore the asphalt content value could not be obtained.
