Abstract

This research is entitled “The Behavior of Students at SMP Kristen 1 Kupang in the Academic Year 2015/2016” by Elise Lobo, Registration Number 811.2.141.015.MM, under the guidance of P. Dr. Cosmas Fernandez, SVD,MA and Simon Sia Niha, S.E., M.Si. The student’s behavior of SMP Kristen 1 Kupang is not good at all. Some of students have problem about their behavior. Therefore, the problems of this research are the following: (1) How about student’s behaviour, learning motivation, role of teachers, role of parents and school activities at SMP Kristen 1 Kupang? (2) Do the learning motivation, role of teachers, role of parents and school activities affect simultaneously in student’s behaviour at SMP Kristen 1 Kupang? (3) Do the learning motivation, role of teachers, role of parents and school activities partially affect student’s behaviour at SMP Kristen 1 Kupang? The population of this research is all 294 students in SMP Kristen 1 Kupang. Taking 167 students as the samples is done by Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling Technique. The data used is qualitative data, quantitative data, primary data and secondary data. The data was collected by questionnaire. The analytical tool used is a descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis. Descriptive analysis showed that independent variables of learning motivation (X1) is categorized as good, while the role of the teacher (X2), the role of parents (X3), and school activities (X4) are classified as very good classification. The dependent variable students’ behavior (Y) is classified as good. Inferential statistical test results showed that simultaneous independent variables have positive and significant influence on the dependent variable. Each independent variable partially also has a positive and significant effect on the dependent variable. The contribution of independent variables (X1, X2, X3, and X4) on the dependent variable (Y) is 51.5% while the remaining 48.9% is influenced by other factors not included in this study. Based on the result of this research, there are some suggestions such as the following: 1. The role of teachers as facilitators should be increased. The role of teachers as a model in discipline and other responsibility should be increased too. 2. The participation of parents should be increased, such as attend in school’s events and other invitation from school. 3. Students need to consider and implement any advice given by teachers and parents.
