Abstract

This study is conducted to answer the following questions: l). Are the tenth grade students of SMAK Yohanes Paulus II Larantuka in the school year 2013/2014 able to write a narrative text? 2). What is the ability level of the tenth grade students of SMAK Yohanes Paulus II Larantuka in writing a narrative text? 3). What might be the difficulties faced by the tenth grade students of SMAK Yohanes Paulus II Larantuka in writing a narrative text? Based on the statement of the problems above, the following are the objectives of the study: l). To find out whether the tenth grade students of SMAK Yohanes Paulus II Larantuka in the school year 2013/2014 are able to write narrative text or not. 2). To find out the ability level of the tenth grade students of SMAK Yohanes Paulus II Larantuka in writing a narrative text. 3). To find out the difficulties that might be faced by the tenth grade students of SMAK Yohanes Paulus II Larantuka in writing a narrative text. The method used in this study is descriptive method. This method is employed to clarify the problem of the study and to the describe the result of the study. The subject of the study is the Tenth Grade Students Of SMAK Yohanes Paulus II Larantuka In The School Year 2013/2014 that consists of 17 students of XA class. In collecting the data, the writer used a test. The topics were prepared by the writer. The topics are: a). Bad experience I have ever had, b) My unforgettable experience when I was in Junior high school, c) My last Christmas holiday. The data in this study is the primary data. The result of the study showed that 1) The tenth Grade Students of SMAK Yohanes Paulus II Larantuka in the School Year 2013/2014 are not able to write narrative text, 2) Their ability level of writing narrative text is Below Average. 3) Many mistakes are found on their text such as tenses (simple past tense), generic structure, and sentence construction, personal pronouns as object and to be. Referring to the result of the study, the student of English at the researched schools expected to encourage students to keep practicing writing narrative text so their ability level could be increased.
