Abstract

Mobile game developers are currently competing in creating the newest games that apply on either Java platform, Android or IOS to attract market attention. It is mostly because people in urban areas tend to spend their leisure time with playing games on their mobile phones. Moreover, multimedia has been publicly well-known because it can be utilized to explain about something that might be too complex to be understood by people such as Indonesian traditional musical instruments. In this research, a game is developed to help introducing Indonesian musical instruments with an edition of Java programming language, Java2 Micro Edition (J2ME). The development method used in this research is multimedia. The process undertaken include concept, design, material collecting, assembly, testing, distribution. This game is developed with Eclipse Pulsar Helios application and JDK7 (Java Development Kit) programming language. This research results in a game called "Find the Instrument" that comprises several levels of game with the musical instruments as media of recognition. Based on the results of the questionnaire is known that as many as 63% of respondents feel that the information given in this game. However, due to the memory limitation, it does not cover all of Indonesian traditional musical instruments.
