Abstract
This study is entitled “A Study on the Ability in Using Present Perfect Tense of the Second Semester Students of English Education Study Program of Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang in the academic year 2022/2023” It aims to answer the following questions: 1. Are the second semester students of English Education Study Program of Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang in the academic year 2022/2023 able to use present perfect tense? 2. What is the level of the second semester students of English Education Study Program of Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang in the academic year 2022/2023 ability in using present perfect tense? The objectives of this study are 1. To find out whether or not the second semester students are able to use present perfect tense. 2. To find out the ability level of the second semester students of English Education Study Program of Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang in the academic year 2022/2023 in using present perfect tense. To answer these questions the writer used descriptive qualitative method. By using this method the writer can find out whether the second semester students of English Education Study Program of Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang in the academic year 2022/2023 able to use present perfect tense. The subjects of this study were the second semester students English Education Study Program of Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang in the academic year 2022/2023. The total number of the second semester students of English Education Study Program of Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang in the academic year 2022/2023 was 29 students consisting of 10 male 19 female. On the day of the test, unfortunately, there were 5 students absent. So the total number students who did the test was 24 students. In collecting the data the writer used “Test” as the instrument. The test was multiple choice. The multiple choice test consisted of 50 items. The result of this study showed that (a) The second semester students of English Education Study Program of Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang in the academic year 2022/2023 were able to use present perfect tense. (b) Their ability level is “Above Average” with a total score of 70% or 70 as the grade. Based on the result of the study, the writer suggest the English teacher of the researched school should give the students more explanations about tense especially about present perfect tense and excercises about present perfect tense.
