Abstract

Hunting is one of the traditions of the Bidoa Village community that has been going on since the time of the previous ancestors until now. Dai (hunting) traditions are carried out to help farmers eradicate pests that disturb their crops and overcome crop failure. The purpose of this study is to determine the process of implementing the Dai (hunting) tradition, and describe the effectiveness of pest control carried out through the Dai tradition, as well as find out what factors affect the effectiveness of pest control through hunting traditions in Bidoa Village, Nangaroro District, Nagekeo Regency. The theory used in this study is the effectiveness of work from Hasibuan (2016) with indicators of work quality, quantity of work, and time utilization. The research was conducted using qualitative descriptive methods, and data collection techniques through documentation and interviews from informants who knew about Dai traditions, such as traditional leaders, indigenous leaders, and communities directly involved in following hunting traditions, as well as informants from the Department of Agriculture. The analysis data will be narrated according to the thesis writing mechanism. The results showed that, there are several stages carried out in the implementation of hunting activities, namely the preparation stage, the Dai stage (hunting), and the completion stage after hunting activities. In addition, the author found that pest control carried out through hunting traditions was quite effective, this was seen from most of the people who were actively involved, cooperated and worked together in participating in hunting activities, by utilizing the hunting time for four days to the maximum, so as to obtain good harvests. There are two factors found that affect the effectiveness of pest control through hunting traditions, namely supporting factors and inhibiting factors in its implementation.
