Abstract

This research is entitled "Community Participation in kelas Ceremonies in Rongga Koe Village, Kota Komba District, East Manggarai" This study aims to determine the form of community participation in kelas ceremonies and to find out what factors influence the level of community participation in kelas ceremonies. The theory used in this study is the participation theory of Keith Davis (2013) with indicators of mental involvement, motivation, and responsibility. Descriptive research method with a qualitative approach. The informants in this study were traditional leaders, the community, the owner of the ana krona event and the children of Wina. The types of data are primary data and secondary data. Data collection techniques were carried out by observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques and verification techniques or conclusions. The results of the study show that in the Rongga Koe community they have high morale to work together among members of the community and have a high sense of empathy when relatives or acquaintances are carrying out an event, at a kelas ceremony held in the Rongga Koe sub-district, participation in This higher kelas ceremony is caused because this ceremony has become a separate culture in the Manggarai community, and they also have very strong kinship ties, a high sense of kinship so that the participation that is generated is very large. In addition to the large number of people participating in the class ceremony, this has also become a culture that needs to be preserved by every member of the Manggarai community because this class ceremony is very unique and has a deep meaning, namely believing that it can carry the spirit of someone who has died so that the spirit of that person can calm in his world and the people who are left behind will not get any danger or calamity in the form of illness or other illnesses. Suggestions are expected, especially for young people to be more active in participating in every existing traditional ceremony such as one of the kelas ceremonies so that a sacred culture like this does not run out or disappear in time but is increasingly preserved.
