Abstract

Roads are infrastrucutre needed to move one place to another. Road damage occurs due to the asphalt mixture compaction process which is not carried out in the field at the right temperature because the temperature already changed. This often occurs in mixture confeying process from Asphalt Mixing Plant to the place of spread and also the wheather is one of the factors. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of substandard temperature variations in the HRS-WC mixture on Marshall Properties based on the general specification of Bina Marga 2018, Revision 2. By using the Marshall method with an estimated asphalt content of 6%, 6,5%, % 7,5% and 8%, and obtained optimum asphalt content of 7,03%. Then, the experiment is continued to the next stage by preparing the mixed material according to the composition of the initial aggregate mixture using an asphalt content of 7,03% with variations of compaction temperature of 115℃, 125℃, and 135℃ to determine the effect on Marshall Properties. Based on the test results obtained: Density is greater, means the higher the compaction temperature, the mixture will be denser; VMA is lower, which means there are fewer air voids in the mixture; VFA is higher, which means the percentage of voids filled with asphalt is getting bigger; VIM is lower, which means the persentage of voids in mix is getting lower; Stability is higher, which means the strength of the pavement layer in carriying traffic loads is greater; Flow is lower, which means the mixture become stiff and tends to crack under load; Marshall Quotient is comparative indicator of rigidity and flexibility.
