Abstract
It is condudcted to answer the following questions: (1) What are the grammatical errors in writing descriptive text made by the eleventh grade students of Sint. Carolus Senior High School Penfui Kupang in the school year 2017/2018? (2) What is the most common error in writing descriptive text made by the eleventh grade students of Sint. Carolus Senior High School Penfui Kupang in the school year 2017/2018?. Based on the problems stated above, the objectives of the study are (1) To find out the grammatical errors in writing descriptive text made by the eleventh grade students of Sint. Carolus Senior High School Penfui Kupang in the school year 2017/2018 and (2) To find out the most common error in writing descriptive text made by the eleventh grade students of Sint. Carolus Senior High School Penfui Kupang in the school year 2017/2018. The subject of this study was 21 students of the eleventh grade students of Sint. Carolus Senior High School Penfui Kupang. In collecting the result, the writer used descriptive method. The purpose of this method is to describe the errors made by the students. The students were given the chance to make their own descriptive text based on the topics prepared. The taxonomi used by the writer in analysing the data was surface strategy taxonomy that consists of some categories such as omission, addition, misformation and misordering. Based on the result of the analysis, it can be seen that (1) The total errors was commited by the eleventh grade students of Sint. Carolus Senior High School was 466. They committed 4 types of errors erros namely: omission 229 (49,14 %), addition error is 13 (2.78 %), misformation error is 176 (37.76 %) and misordering error is 48 (10, 30 %). (2) The most common error was omission error because the notal number of that category of error is the higest on i.e. 229 errors (49,14 %). Based on the result of this study, the writer suggests to the teacher that she or he should teach the students how to create a good text in English especially descriptive text and before that the teacher should teach the students about the subject and verb agreement, how to make good sentences based on the tenses used and the teacher should give the students chance to practice it, while for the students, they are expected to study more on English grammar especially subject annd verb agreement.
