Abstract

This research entitled “ A study on writing ability of EFL learners in the academic year 2022” The objectives of this study one (1) to find out whether or not the fourth semester students of English Education Study Program at Widya Mandira Catholic University able to writer recount text. (2) to find the level of ability of the fourth semester students of English Education Study Program at Widya Mandira Catholic University in writing recount text. The subject in the research was the fourth semester students of the English Education Study Program. This research gives to determine the students ability in writing recount text which has been carried out on the fourth semester students of the English Study Program at the Widya Mandira Catholic University Kupang. The sample of this study was 10 fourth semester students in the English Study Program and data collection was carried out through a recount text writing test. Very good, very good, good, moderate, below averge, and bad. The texts result show that the ability to write recount texts is the average of the students (11.70). the difficulty faced by students in recount text is grammar, vocabulary and mechanics where the have limited knowledge of grammar. The only know general vocabulary like subject, olor, and so on lack of knowledge causes and other problem of meaning. In the terms of vocabulary, students do not have an idea of how to describe object., its takes a lot of time to write simple paragraphs during the text. In short, students have some problems in writing recount text. Their problem is generating ideas, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. Therefore, is suggested to students to enrich their vocabulary so they can write recount well.
