Abstract

This thesis is entitled Ethnicity and Political Networks in the Victory of Newcomer Candidates Abi Yerusa Sobeukum and Octovianus Djevri Piether La'a in the 2019 Legislative Elections in Kupang Regency. The formulation of the problem in writing this thesis is How is the influence of Ethnicity and Political Networks in the Victory of Newcomer Candidates Abi Yerusa Sobeukum and Octovianus Djevri Piether La'a in the 2019 Legislative Elections in Kupang Regency. The theory used by researchers in solving research problems is ethnicity in politics and political networks. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Primary data sources are informants while secondary data are documents related to research variables. Data collection techniques used were interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis stage was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing stage and then analyzed descriptively qualitatively. The research results show that (1). The election of Abi Yerusa Sobeukum and Octovianus Djevri Piether La'a was inseparable from the support of the Tamoes, Tableak, Tpoenifu Naioes, Bella, Giri and Ledo tribes/clans in the South Amfoang, Central Amfoang, Northwest Amfoang and North Amfoang Districts. In addition, because there is a pattern of voting behavior, people tend to vote based on regional, religious and familial influences. Abi Yerusa Sobeukum's voice support from marital ties was obtained from the mother's family, in this case the Tapatap and Tanaos tribes/clans in Oh'aem I and II Villages, while Octovianus Djevri Piether La'a relied on support from the wife's family whose surname/lenawila tribe in the villages of Soliu, Oelfatu, Saukibe and Honuk in Amfoang Barat Laut District and supported by Mrs. Octovianus Djevri Piether La'a who comes from Kolabe Village in North Amfoang. (2) the election of Abi Yerusa Sobeukum and Octovianus Djevri Piether is inseparable from the support from youth/student groups. The support of youth/student groups is inseparable from the existence of assistance, both in the form of contributions of ideas and thoughts and money. the election of Abi Yerusa Sobeukum and Octovianus Djevri Piether was inseparable from the support of the Success Team, who are traditional/usif leaders who have enormous influence in the community and because of considerations of family relations. Based on the results of the analysis above, the authors conclude that ethnic/ethnic and regional/regional aspects, ties from different ethnic marriages in the form of success team support and youth/student group support influence the election of Abi Yerusa Sobeukum and Octovianus Djevri Piether La'a in legislative elections. 2019 in Kupang Regency.
