Abstract
This thesis is entitled Representation of Women in the 2019 Legislative Elections in Electoral II of Malacca Regency. The formulation of the problem in writing this thesis is how women are represented in the 2019 legislative elections in electoral district II, Malaka Regency. The theory used by researchers in solving research problems is women's political representation and Barriers to Women's Political Representation in Elections. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Primary data sources are informants while secondary data are documents related to research variables. The data collection techniques used were interviews, observation and documentation. The data analysis stage was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing stage and then analyzed qualitatively descriptively. The research results show that (1). Descriptive representation in the form of ethnic and religious factors is not a basis or consideration for the community in choosing female legislative candidates. People tend to choose legislative candidates who have social capital, economic capital, prominent figures in society, educational qualifications and legislative candidates who can embrace and fight for the interests of the community. (2) Symbolic representation in the form of a lack of female legislative candidates who campaign on gender-based issues or sensitivities towards women such as campaigning on all kinds of women's issues (Rape Cases, Domestic Violence, Human Trafficking, Health, Education and Job Vacancies) and a lack of campaigning on issues or public interests which is very urgent in their respective electoral districts (Drinking Water, Waste, Education, Health, and UKM) this is due to the absence of campaigns carried out by female legislative candidates due to lack or limitations so that they never carry out political campaigns and female legislative candidates who run in the election legislature only to meet 30% representation of women. (3) Political Barriers for Women also influence the election of female legislative candidates in Electoral District II Malacca due to the lack of Political Training, Cadre Levels and Weak sources of funds in mass-raising activities and campaign attributes Based on the results of the analysis above, the author concludes that descriptive representation, symbolic representation and political obstacles influence the low representation of women in the Malacca II electoral district.
