Abstract
Palmyra fruit fiber is one of the wastes that has not been widely used as a biosorbent because it has a good cellulose content in the methylene blue adsorption process. The purpose of this study is to determine the characteristics of KOH-activated palmyra fruit fiber using water absorption tests and functional group content analysis, as well as knowing the optimum conditions of methylene blue adsorption by KOH-activated palmyra fruit fiber biosorbents. The method used is adsorption. The results showed that the maximum water absorption test at 3 hours with %R of 84.03%; optimum surface area at 100 mesh biosorbent size with qe 2.83 mg g-1 and adsorption percent of 56.67%; optimum pH 7 with qe 4.96 mg g-1 and percent adsorption is 99.13%; optimum biosorbent mass of 0.1 grams with qe 4.91 mg g-1 and adsorption percent of 98.16%; optimum contact time of 75 minutes with qe was 4.79 mg g-1 and the adsorption percent was 95.73%; and an optimum concentration of 60 ppm with a qe of 28.61 mg g-1 and an adsorption percent of 95.38%.
