Abstract

It was conducted the following question: (1).What are the errors made in recount text by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Kupang? (2). What is the most frequent error encountered by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Kupang?. The objectives of the study are to identify the errors which are made by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Kupang and to find out the most frequent error encountered by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Kupang. The subject of the study were 26 students from IPA 2 class eleventh. In getting the data, the writer used descriptive qualitative. The method is aimed to describe and analyze the errors made by the students. The writer gave three topics and students chose one of them to construct into a good recount text. The result of this study are: (1). The errors made by the students were omission 26 (13.40%), addition 34 (17.52%), misformation 119 (61.34%), misordering 15 (7.73%) and miscellaneous 9 sentences. The number of errors in grammar was 194. (2). The most frequent error encountered by the students is misformation with 119 sentences (61.34%). Based on the result of the data, the writer suggest: (1). The teacher should give more emphasis on grammatical aspect especially in using simple past tense, subject and verb agreement, using modal and pronoun, article and preposition also how to make good sentence because the students still lack of knowledge in these part. (2). The eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Kupang should learn more how to write a good text and focus on grammar especially about tenses.
