Abstract

The thesis entitled "The Influence of Transformational Leadership, School Culture, and Teacher Personality Competence on the Character of Students at SMAK Sint Carolus Kupang with Learning Motivation as a Mediating Variable," was written by Helena da Conceição Ximenes, Student ID: 811212038MM, supervised by Dr. Dra. Ruminah, MM, and Drs. Alfons Bunga Naen, M.Pd. This research aims to analyze the influence of transformational leadership, school culture, and teacher personality competence on the character of students with learning motivation as a mediating variable. The study utilizes primary data obtained from respondents through questionnaires. The research population comprises all teachers at SMAK Sint Carolus Kupang, with a sample of 72 individuals, representing the entire population. Data analysis in this study is conducted using Partial Least Square (PLS) with the application of SmartPLS 3.0. The results of hypothesis testing indicate that the transformational leadership of the school principal significantly influences the character of students, with a coefficient value of 0.570 (p < 0.05). However, school culture does not significantly affect the character of students (coefficient = -0.149, p > 0.05). Furthermore, teacher personality competence also does not have a significant impact on the character of students (coefficient = 0.023, p > 0.05). Testing on the learning motivation of students shows that transformational leadership does not significantly influence learning motivation (coefficient = -0.084, p > 0.05). However, school culture (coefficient = 0.570, p < 0.05) and teacher personality competence (coefficient = 0.664, p < 0.05) significantly affect the learning motivation of students. Moreover, students' learning motivation significantly influences their character (coefficient = 0.405, p < 0.05). Therefore, students' learning motivation is considered an essential factor in shaping the character of students at SMAK Sint Carolus Kupang. In the context of path analysis, hypotheses involving the path of influence of transformational leadership of the school principal or school culture through students' learning motivation on their character are not proven to be significant (p > 0.05). However, hypotheses involving the path of influence of teacher personality competence through students' learning motivation on their character are proven to be significant (p < 0.05).
