Abstract

Bonet dance is one of the oldest traditional dances of the Dawan tribe. Based on its form and function, it is believed that the Dawan tribal community has been dancing since the hunting era, where they survived using modern methods (moving from place to place) for hunting and farming. When hunting, Timorese people in ancient times used the tactic of encircling the hunted object by surrounding the hunted animal. Then cheer to ward off the game by burning the grass so that the game is surrounded by the fire. The main problems in this research are (1). What is the form of presentation of the bonet dance in the community of East Taunbaen village, North Biboki subdistrict? (2). What is the function of the bonetr dance in the East Taunbaen Village Community, North Biboki District? This research aims to describe the movements and determine the functions performed by the bonet dance. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach and ethnographic methods. Data collection techniques are observation, interviews and documentation. The subjects in this research were 4 traditional parents who knew about Bonet Dance. The results of the research show that in the Traditional House Inauguration ceremony the function has meaning, namely strengthening spirit, friendship and unity. Some Bonet dances are easy and some are difficult for today's young people and future generations to translate. Based on the results of the research and discussion, it was concluded that the Bonet Dance was not immediately held but had to go through several processes in the form of its presentation from Nasina (notification), until the end. The Bonet dance is an expression of the motivation of friendship to strengthen the spirit, friendship and unity, not revenge or emotion.
