Abstract

The present study is entitled “A Morphological Analysis of Compound Words in Bajawa Language”. This study was conducted to find out types of compound words used in Bajawa language and to find out the structure of compound words in Bajawa language. This present study was only focus on compound words used in Bajawa language. The method of this study was the qualitative method and the technique of the data complication was collected through elicitation task, interview and documentation distributed to a few participants who were native or L1 speakers of Bajawa. The participants of the study were Bajawa people in Turekisa village which consist of 3 Bajawanese males and 3 Bajawanese females, aged 35-70. The participants were from Ngada Regency which was purposely selected. They were all native speakers of Bajawa language who lived in Turekisa. To establish and discuss the types and the structure of compound words in Bajawa language, this study used the classification of compound words patterns exocentric, endocentric and dvandva. The finding of this research showed that the types of compound words in Bajawa language used by the Bajawanese participants were endocentric compound, exocentric compound and dvandva compound. Furthermore, the structure of the compound words were in N+N (24 words), V+N (6 words), N+Adj (7 words), N+V (6 words), V+Adj (5 words), V+V (4 words), N + Adj (3 words), N+Adv (1 word), Adj+Adj (1 word), Prep+Adv (1 word), Adj + N (1 word), N+N+N (1 word), V+N+N (1 word) and N+N+Adj (1 word).
