Abstract

This research focuses on addressing the challenges faced by Inpres Lawir Elementary School students in Golo Lero Village, South Lamba Leda District, East Manggarai Regency, in mastering arithmetic concepts. The study targets two distinct groups, namely the low class (levels 1-3) and high class (levels 4-6), encompassing students aged 6-13 years. The primary objective is to develop an innovative abacus-based application designed to enhance students' understanding of mathematical concepts, specifically in the areas of addition and subtraction. He chosen development methodology for this research is the Waterfall method, a structured approach involving sequential stages from planning and analysis to design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. This method ensures a systematic and thorough development process for the abacus application. The research outcomes include the successful creation of an abacus application capable of generating random addition and subtraction problems. Moreover, the application has the ability to assess the accuracy of answers by tracking the movement of virtual abacus beads, providing immediate and precise feedback to the user. The significance of this research lies in demonstrating the positive impact of technology, particularly abacus-based applications, in fostering students' enthusiasm for learning mathematics. By introducing an engaging and interactive tool, the study aims to contribute to a more effective and enjoyable learning experience for students at SDI Lawir and potentially benefit other elementary schools.
