Abstract

The title of the thesis is Speech Acts in Joka Ju a Traditional Ceremony of Lio Ethnic, with the formulation of the problem what are the types of speech acts used in the Joka Ju traditional ceremony of the Lio ethnic, and what are the meanings of speech acts used in the Joka Ju traditional ceremony of the Lio ethnic as for the purpose of this study is to describe the types of speech acts used in the Joka Ju traditional ceremony of the Lio ethnic, describe the meaning of speech acts in the Joka Ju traditional ceremony of the Lio ethnic. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The research data used are speech acts spoken by Mosalaki during the ceremony. The results of this study are divided into 9 categories, namely: 3 types of directive speech acts: inviting speech acts, requesting speech acts, and prohibiting speech acts. There are 4 types of assertive speech acts: telling speech acts, suggesting speech acts. 3 types of speech acts state, and 4 speech acts emphasize that something is true. There are 2 types of commissive speech acts: the speech act of threatening to order, and the speech act of refusing. The type of this research is illocution. The researcher divides the research data of one text into several sentences such as: 1. The directive speech act of inviting, there is 1 sentence. The speech act of asking, there are 18 sentences. The speech act of forbidding, there are 2 sentences. 2. Assertive, the speech act of telling, there are 15 sentences. The act of suggesting, there are 3 sentences. The act of stating, there are 9 sentences. And the act of affirming that something is true, there is 1 sentence. 3. Commissive, threatening, there is 1 sentence. And the act of refusing, there are 2 sentences. The meaning of speech acts that have been categorized in the Joka Ju ceremony carried out by the Lio community is to perform an expulsion ritual by feeding protective spirits to ask for protection with speech utterances such as asking, refusing, ordering, stating, and so on when the ceremony is held.
