Abstract
Thisstudyisentitled“ExaminingMindMappingTechniqueinWriting ProcedureTextUsedbyEighthGradeStudentsofSMPKSta.FamiliaKupang intheSchoolYear2018/2019”.Thisstudywasconductedtoanswerthe followingquestions:(1)IsMindMappingTechniqueeffectivetoimprovethe writingabilityoftheeighthgradestudentsofSMPKSta.FamiliaKupanginthe Schoolyears2018/2019?(2)Whatisthelevelofstudents’writingabilityafter beingtaughtusingmindmapping?Whiletheobjectivesofthestudyare(1) Identifywhethertheuseofmindmappingasatechniquecanimprovethe students’skillinwritingproceduretext.(2)Findoutthelevelofstudents’ abilityinwritingproceduretextafterbeingtaughtbyusingmindmapping.This studywasconductedbyusingclassroom actionresearch.Thesubjectofthis studywastheeighthgradestudentsofSMPKSta.FamiliaKupanginthe schoolyear2018/2019.Theyaredistributedinthreeclasses:8A-8C.Each classconsistsof26students.ThetotaloftheeighthgradestudentsofSMPK Sta.FamiliaKupangis78students.Thewritertookonlyoneclassofthe eighthgradeofSMPKSta.FamiliaKupang,itwasclassVIIIAwith26students, butwhenthewriterdidtheresearchonly22studentswerepresent.Thisstudy wasconductedintwocycles.Theinstrumentsusedinthisstudyweretest, lessonplansandobservationsheet.Therewerethreetestsconductedinthis study,theywerepre-test,post-testIandpost-testII.Themethodsusedinthis studywerequantitative(Abilitytest)andqualitative.Theresultofthestudy showsthat(1)mindmappingtechniqueiseffectivetoimprovewritingability oftheeighthgradestudentsofSMPKSta.FamiliaKupangintheschoolyear 2018/2019.Itwasshownbythescoreimprovementofscoresinthreetestsof pre-test(6.09=Belowaverage),post-testI(6.27=Belowaverage)andposttestII(13.04=Aboveaverage).Itmeansthatthereisimprovementofstudents’ writingabilityafterteachingthem usingmindmappingtechnique.Inthecycle 1and2therewere5stepsinapplyingmindmapping;Teacherexplainedabout mindmapping,teachermaketheexampleofmindmapping,teacheraskedthe studentstomakemindmapping,teachermonitoredorgavecorrectionintheir mindmap,teacherevaluatingtheresult.Andwhentheydevelopedthetext, thesethirdandfourthstepswerecrucialbecausethosestepshelpedto correctmistakesandhelpedstudentswithcontentofproceduretext.(2)In posttestIIthelevelofstudents’writingabilityafterbeingtaughtusingmind mappingwasgood.Theresultofposttestwas13.04(AboveAverage).Based ontheresultitcanbeconcludedthatmindmappingtechniquecouldimprove writingproceduretextoftheeightgradestudentsofSMPK Sta.Familia Kupangintheschoolyear2018/2019.Suggestion(1)ForEnglishteacher especially those who are teaching English atSMPK Sta.Familia,its recommendedtousemindmappingtechniqueasonetechniquetohelpthe studentstowriteatext.(2)Studentsshouldstimulatethemselvestolearn Englishespeciallywriting.(3)Thewriterwillbecomeaneducatorandsince thisstudyshowedapositiveresulthedecidedtocontinuetousemind mapping.
