Abstract

Spring water is groundwater that comes out by itself to the ground surface. Water sources originating from springs are generally suitable for direct consumption because they experience natural purification, but the high demand for clean water makes springs subject to anthropogenic pressure that can reduce the quality of springs. This study aims to determine the bacteriological quality of spring water in Merbaun village and Toobaun village. The method used in this study is the Most Probable Number (MPN), using a series of five tubes with a variety of 5-5-5. The test includes three stages, namely the estimation test, the affirmation test, and the complete test. The data obtained is presented in tabular form and then compared with the MPN value of the table and analyzed descriptively, namely comparing the MPN value of the table with water quality standards, namely PP No. 22 of 2021 class I concerning the implementation of environmental protection and management. The results showed that the total Coliform of Merbaun water is ≥1600 MPN/100 ml, this value does not meet the quality standards of PP No. 22 of 2021 (1000 MPN/100ml), then Fecal Coliform of 90 MPN/ 100 ml, this value when compared to PP No. 22 of 2021 (100 MPN/ 100 ml) still meets the established standards. As for Toobaun springs, the total Coliform is 900 MPN / 100 ml, this value when compared to PP No. 22 of 2021 still meets the established quality standards. Furthermore, fecal coliform of 220 MPN/100ml this value does not meet the standards of PP No. 22 of 2021. In a complete test using EMBA media found three types of bacteria that have similar characteristics with Escherichia coli, Salmonella sp. Klebsiella sp. Based on these results, the water in Merbaun and Toobaun springs cannot be consumed directly before cooking first. Keyword : Spring water, bacteriological quality, MPN test
