Abstract

Latung Lawang singing is an integral part of Bebing dance. Latung means event and Lawang means story. Latung Lawang singing in bebing dance tells the story of warfare events that occurred in the past. Bebing dance cannot stand alone without Latung Lawang singing. Not everyone can sing this song and understand its meaning. Therefore, almost all people who participate in watching bebing dances are only limited to admiring every treat of motion from the dancers without knowing the story behind it. In this day and age many do not understand the meaning of the song itself so that the meaning of bebing dance has not been conveyed clearly. The problem in this study is that this is what makes the author interested in (1) How is the form of presentation of latung lawang singing in bebing dance for the people of Hokor village, Sikka Regency, (2) what is the meaning of the lyrics of latung lawang singing in bebing dance for the people of Hokor village, Sikka Regency. The purpose of this research is (1) to describe the presentation form of latung lawang singing in bebing dance for the people of Hokor village, Sikka district, (2) to explore and find the meaning of latung lawang singing poem in bebing dance for the people of Hokor village, Sikka district. This research is qualitative in nature. The method used in this research is ethnographic method. Data collection techniques using observation, documentation, interviews. Data analysis includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that (1) the form of presentation of latung lawang singing in bebing dances occurs in the prayer round, training round, and victory round, (2) in latung lawang singing there is a denotative meaning that explains the general meaning or true meaning that occurs in the prayer round. The connotative meaning that explains the implied meaning involving feelings of sadness or pleasure is expressed in the prayer round, the training round, the victory round, and the symbolic meaning contained in the accessories worn by the hulubalang and the natural code contained in the verse of the latung lawang song.
