Abstract

The objectives of this study are: 1) Describe cognitive learning outcomes, completeness of cognitive learning outcomes and completeness of cognitive learning outcome indicators by applying problem-based learning models; 2) improve students' critical thinking skills by applying problembased learning models. The research method used was Quasi Experiment.The population of this study was the seventh grade students of Kupang Adisucipto Penfui Junior High School with a study sample consisting of 2 classes obtained using purposive sampling technique, namely the experimental class (VII A) totaling 29 people using a problem-based learning model and control class (VII B ) of 30 people using the direct learning model. The data collection technique is a test. The results of the study show that: 1) Student learning outcomes have increased after being treated by using a problem-based learning model. in the experimental class a problem-based learning model was applied and scored 98% greater than the control class which received 43%; 2) model of learning based on the problem of influence on improving students' critical thinking skills; 3) in the experimental class and the control class have different N-gain scores, namely the N-gain score of the experimental class is 0.51, then the increase in critical thinking skills in the subjects in the experimental class includes the medium category and the control class has an N-gain score of 0 , 28, then improving the critical thinking skills of the control class students including the low category.
