Abstract

This study was conducted to answer the following questions: (1)Have the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Kupang mastered vocabularies as tested to them? (2) What is the students’ level of mastery of the tested vocabularies?The main objectives of this study are: (1) To find out whether the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Kupang have mastered vocabularies tested to them. (2) To find out students’ level of mastery of the tested vocabularies.The vocabulary test was in the form of multiple choice.There were 40 test items. The result of the data analysis shows that (1) The eighth grade students of class VIII A SMP Negeri 2 Kupang mastered the tested vocabularies (2) The mastery level of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Kupang was “very good” (91%). Based on the result the writer would like to offersuggestions:(1)To the English teacher at SMP Negeri 2 Kupang thatshould the teachers help the students on grammar and vocabulary by giving more excercises to them. (2) For the students they can try to do more exercises in English reading texts and try to get more vocabulary. (3) The writer also suggests them to learn more about grammar that can help them to improve their vocabulary mastery.
