Abstract

The Melo singing is a traditional song originating from Tadho Village, Riung District, Ngada Regency. The Melo song is a mass song whose participants are only men and adults. This song is not accompanied by music and dance. The Melo song is a very sacred song because this song can only be sung at the opening and closing of the traditional boxing ceremony (Mbela) and this song has been around since ancient times and has been passed down from generation to generation. Melo's song has the meaning of gratitude and joy because the warriors have indeed fought the invaders.The problem raised in this writing is what is the meaning of the poetry contained in the Melo song at the traditional boxing ceremony (Mbela) in Tadho Village, Riung District, Ngada Regency. This research aims to find out what the meaning of Melo's song is traditional boxing ceremony in Tadho village, Riung District, Ngada Regency. As for the informant the main focus of this research is a resource person who is the soloist in the song Melo is a person who has an important role in the development of boxing custom This writing is qualitative in nature, data obtained through interview and documentation techniques and is secondary data. The results of this research show that Melo singing at traditional boxing ceremonies means that every poem sung has meaning and a message conveyed to the community as one family, giving a message of cooperation and never giving up and always protecting one's home and land.
