Abstract
NTT's ikat weaving craft is a rich cultural heritage that plays an important role in people's lives. Ikat weaving is referred to as woven cloth which is seen as family property because it is a symbol of high cultural identity in each region. Each tribe has unique patterns and motifs that characterize the producing area. In its development, NTT ikat weaving has become well known from national to international scales and is in demand by various groups. The weaving process takes quite a long time because the authentic ikat weaving itself must be done manually starting from the thread spinning process, dyeing using natural dyes, to the weaving process. As time goes by, the production of woven cloth is decreasing due to the lack of interest of the younger generation in pursuing this weaving profession, the weaving profession is only carried out by housewives as a distraction in their spare time. Apart from that, limited public access hinders meetings with consumers because the government's efforts have not been maximal in providing a platform for promotion, education and efforts to preserve weaving itself. Seeing this problem, researchers made observations regarding the empowerment of weaving craftsmen. The results of the observations were then developed into a design concept using a contemporary architectural approach. It is hoped that the NTT ikat weaving center will be able to become a forum for marketing weaving, education to increase interest and talent in weaving, and a place for innovation.
