Abstract

It is conducted to answer the following questions: (1) What kinds of errors are made in writing descriptive text by students of SMAN 2 Kota Kupang ? (2) What is the most common or error made in writing descriptive text by students of SMAN 2 Kota Kupang ? . The objectives of the study are to know kinds of errors in writing descriptive text made by students of SMAN 2 Kota Kupang and to know the most common error made in writing descriprive text by students of SMAN 2 Kota Kupang. The subject of this study are 22 students in X language class with the total number of students are 26. In getting the data, the writer use descriptive text method. The aims to describe the errors made by students. The writer gives topics and students choose and construct it into a good composition. The result of the study are: (1) The grammatical errors are made by students of tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Kota Kupang in the school year 2018/2019 in writing are: 145 (55.13%) Omission, 89 (33.84%) Misformation, 24 (9.12%) Addition, and 6 (2.28%) Misordering. (2) The most common error made in writing descriprive text by students of SMAN 2 Kota Kupang is omission with the total number of errors is 145 (55.13%). Based on the result of data analysis, the writer suggests: (1) For the students, they should learn more how to write well especially in writing descriptive text. The most common errors made by tenth grade students is omission. Students should pay attention to the tense that they use in writing descriptive text. Nowdays, a lot of sources the students can access to get information how to improve their ability in writing especially in writing descriptive text such as books and the internet.
