Abstract

The Dowe dance is usually performed when gues tsarepic kedup.The Dowe dance has a certain function and meaning, butmany members of the community do not know the function and meaningof this dance,a part from that there is no appreciation from the community, because the Dowe dance is rarely performed at traditional events. This research aims to analyze the function and describe the meaning contained in the Dowe Dance for picking up guests. This research uses ade scriptive qualitative research type, while the method used in this research is aqualitative method. This research was carried out in Ja Mokeasa Village, EndeDistrict.The Dowe dance for picking up guests is a dance that is performed when pickingup guestsor bigf igures as a nex pression of happiness and al so as entertainment for farmers who are carrying out planting activities. Dowe can beused as a means tobuild togethe rness because in carrying out Dowe activities,many people mustbe involved. The function of the Dowe Dance is as a means of accompanying dance,a samedium of communication,asameans of entertainment,as a nex pression of joy,asanex pression of history,asanex pression of supplication,as a form of worship to Nggae Dewa (God) and Embu Kajo (ancestors).Sundurevealed that the Dowe Dance to pick up guests contains moral messages whichhave an impact on changing the behavior of the people of Ja Mokeasa Village the mselves.The Dowe dance has historical meaning,sociologi calmeaning,together nessmeaning, hopeforhealth,religious meaning (thanks giving and offerings),and aesthetic meaning(beauty).
