Abstract

The objectives of this study describe: 1) the effect of the Problem Based Learning model on students' cognitive learning outcomes; 2) Describe significant differences regarding cognitive learning outcomes of students between the experimental class and the control class;3) Describe the influence of the Problem Based Learning model on students' oral communication skills.The research method used was Quasi Experiment. The population of this study werestudents of XI IPA SMAN Sint Carolus Penfui Kupang with a study sample consisting of 2 classes obtained using a purposive sampling technique, namely the experimental class (XI IPA 1) which amounted to 26 people using the Problem Based Learning model and the control class (XI IPA 2) which numbered 28 people using the direct learning model. Data collection techniques are tested and observations.The results of the study show that: 1) The problem based learning model influences students' cognitive learning outcomes; 2) There are differences in cognitive learning outcomes between the experimental class and the control class with a significant value of 0,000 <0,05, so it can be concluded that the results of students 'cognitive degrees using the problem based learning model are higher than students' cognitive learning outcomes using direct learning models; 3) The average aspect of oral communication skills of students in the experimentalclass is higher, namely 76.5 compared to the control class, which is 50.3.
